IWB refers to Inner WaistBand carry - with an IWB holster, you will be carrying concealed, with a holster designed to fit inside your pants and under your shirt or coat.
Kydex IWB holsters are generally considered the best choice for concealed carry - most IWB holsters use passive (level 1) retention.

OWB refers to Outer WaistBand carry - with an OWB holster, you will be carrying openly OR concealed, with a holster designed to ride on the outside of your pants, attached to your belt, sometimes covered by a shirt or coat.
OWB holsters are very popular for hunting, camping, range use, and competition - many, but not all OWB holsters use passive (level 1) retention.

Duty Holsters are OWB holsters that are typically ruggedized for hard use, usually they are designed to fit on a duty belt (thicker and wider than a daily use or carry belt) and feature
Level 2 or Level 3 retention options.
