The philosophy behind DA/SA (Double Action / Single Action) pistols for concealed carry or duty use stems from the longer, heavier (DA) first trigger pull, which acts as a natural safety that can aid - along with good training and trigger discipline; in the firearm only being discharged intentionally, at the proper target, while under duress.
